Every member of our talented team brings their own unique value. And since they might just be the ones helping you grow your business, it’s important to us that you get to know them, as well! So, we’re proud to present to you: The Flinnwest Solutions team!
This week: Meet Raphaela!
What do you do at Flinnwest (title, main duties)?
I’m a web/graphic designer who creates custom-built websites, social media assets, and other marketing materials. Most of the time, I’m conceptualizing UI/UX design strategies for brands and prototyping website mockups, and of course developing and testing the final website later on.
What made you want to get into your field?
I’ve always had a creative mind and a good feel for branding. Good design and striving to create something new gets me excited.
What do you love about your job?
The endless possibilities, the diversity of clients and the creativity; I love our team spirit, our talents, and that there’s something new to learn every day. And of course the gorgeous view of the ocean.
Where were you trained (education or experience)?
I’m from Germany, and was trained there as a media designer for digital and print media. While gaining several years of experience in my first job, I focused on web design and found my passion in it.
What made you move to Canada?
My boyfriend and I wanted to live abroad, and have always loved the West Coast. We’ve never heard one bad thing about Canada, so we were really happy when we got our visas. We love the people, the good economic/healthcare system, the lifestyle, the nature, and that we’re really close to the US.
What do you do in your spare time?
You’ll find me exploring my new home: biking, skiing, standup paddle-boarding, and hiking. We’re taking our dog to all the beaches, lakes, mountains, forests, and just generally having a good time here.
What’s the best movie of all time?
“Expedition Happiness”: Following the journey of a young couple and their dog across Canada from East to West, into Alaska, then South along The Pacific Highway. I’m in love with the beautiful landscapes, the cinematography, and the soundtrack.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
Since going to see live music is another hobby of mine, I’ve been to over 50 concerts—my favourite experience was when I flew out to London for the Vans Warped Tour in 2012. Seeing my favourite bands, Blink-182 and Turnover twice was awesome, too!
Where’s your favourite place in the whole world?
I have never felt more at home than I do in the Pacific Northwest, and Cascadia. Nothing compares to British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California. There are so many different places to visit and explore.
What’s your favourite swear word?
“Depp”: meaning fool, idiot, dork in German/Bavarian; or quirky, silly and/or stupid, but isn’t necessarily meant in a bad way—sometimes it’s just cute. (;
