Every member of our talented team brings their own unique value. And since they just might be the ones helping you grow your business, it’s important to us that you get to know them, as well! So, we’re proud to present to you: The Flinnwest Solutions team!

This week: Meet Ken!

What do you do at Flinnwest (title, main duties)?

I am the lead animator. I take the copy the writers come up with and transform it into eye-catching animations for our clients.

What made you want to get into your field?

Saturday morning cartoons. I’ve always loved drawing, but there’s something special about seeing them actually come to life.

Where were you trained (education or experience)?

I was trained at what was known as C.D.I.S (The Centre for Digital Imaging & Sound) in Burnaby, B.C. We studied everything from 2D animation, life drawing, character design, storyboarding, and 3D animation.

What do you love about your job?

I love the atmosphere and the people here. Everyone is so happy doing what they love to do. The view is amazing and the staff here are always smiling and collaborating with each other to come up with the best content. I love Grady’s sandwiches and losing at MarioKart. One of the things I love most is watching our projects come to fruition and seeing our clients excited about what we’ve done for them.

What do you do in your spare time?

I play guitar, draw a lot, play video games, spend time riding bikes with my kids, camping, and going on adventures.

Where’s your favourite place in the whole world?

My favourite place in the whole world is right here in BC. I love being outdoors in the forest, fly fishing on a river, or just adventuring in our beautiful province. We are very lucky to live here, and though I haven’t travelled out of B.C that much, whenever I do, I can’t wait to get home.

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now (work or otherwise)?

Every animation project I get to work on is usually pretty cool. I think right now though, the animations for Two Brothers Toffee are my favorite to work on. (Check out what Ken is loving at!)

Do you have a secret talent?

I guess playing guitar. I played in a punk/metal band in my teenage years and haven’t really given it up.

What’s your most prized possession?

Probably my signed book from legendary animator Chuck Jones, the creator of Bugs Bunny. I don’t even remember where I got it but I have kept it safe for about 25 years now.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be either a vet or an animator. Once I found out how much science and school went into becoming a vet, I quickly chose the latter and haven’t looked back.
