Every member of our talented team brings their own unique value. And since they might just be the ones helping you grow your business, it’s important to us that you get to know them, as well! So, we’re proud to present to you: The Flinnwest Solutions team!
This week: Meet Becky!
What do you do at Flinnwest (title, main duties)?
I’m a Content Writer. I write social media posts, blogs, and website copy.
What made you want to get into your field?
I have always enjoyed writing, and have done some web copy and social media writing in the past.
Upon returning to the workforce after having my kids, I decided to focus my energy on this new and exciting career path.
Where were you trained (education or experience)?
I have a publishing diploma, as well as experience in marketing my own businesses (I owned a tattoo shop and was a private chef).
I wrote the web copy, promotional materials and did all of the social media for these businesses.
Within these experiences, I learned that marketing writing was where I excelled.
What do you love about your job?
I love to learn about new industries and topics.
I also really enjoy seeing the words I’ve written placed beautifully alongside our graphics.
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy cooking, painting, swimming, and practicing meditation.
Anything in nature and with my kids is always my favourite.
Top 3 favourite books?
The Book of Delights by Ross Gay, The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz, and The Artist Way by Julia Cameron.
If you could have dinner with any person (live or dead), who would it be and what would you eat?
I would eat barbacoa tacos and drink mezcal in a tianguis (a Mexican market) in Mexico City with Anthony Bourdain.
Do you have a nickname?
I’m called Mama mostly these days.
Where’s your favourite place in the whole world?
Anywhere with a body of water close by that I can jump into regularly.
What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now (work or otherwise)?
I am doing some volunteer writing for an organization that I feel very passionate about called Mom’s Against Racism.
Do you have a secret talent?
I lived in Mexico for six years, and it took me about that long to become fluent in Spanish, but I am proud to officially be a Spanish-speaker now!
What’s your most prized possession?
My fancy kitchen knives, and my cookbook collection.
What’s your advice for anyone who wants to get into Content Writing?
I would say keep writing! Prioritize creativity and just keep showing up to your writing every day!
Through quantity will come quality.
