Facebook Best Page and Posting Image Sizes Updated 2019

 

 

Facebook Images

With an average of 1.49 billion active daily users, Facebook is the world’s largest social media network.

Through Facebook, you can potentially reach huge numbers of users, driving business to your Business or Personal Profile.

Facebook has a number of image types that will need to be considered.

Profile Pictures

  • Recommended size: 180×180 pixels

Your Facebook profile photo represents you or your brand and appears every time you comment or post to Facebook.

Follow these parameters for Facebook profile photos:

  • At least 180×180 pixels. The profile photo will appear as 170×170 pixels on desktop, and 128×128 pixels on smartphones.
  • Make note that profile photos are located 16 pixels from the left, 176 pixels from the top of your cover photo and are round in shape.
  • On smartphones, profile photos are located 24 pixels from the left, 24 pixels from the bottom, and 196 pixels from the top of your cover photo.
  • Throughout Facebook, your profile photo will appear at 32×32 pixels.

Business Page Profile Picture

  • Recommended size: 180×180 pixels

Your business profile photo stands out from personal accounts by appearing on the left side of the screen.

Follow these parameters for Facebook Business Page profile photos:

  • At least 180×180 pixels. Photo will appear on page as 170×170 pixels on desktop and 128×128 pixels on smartphones.
  • Business Page profile photo images will be cropped to fit a square.
  • Throughout Facebook, the photo thumbnail will appear at 32×32 pixels.

Cover Images

  • Recommended size: 820×312 pixels minimum

Your cover photo appears only on your timeline. It is much larger than your profile photo and appears as a large panoramic at the top of the page.

The size of this photo gives you the freedom to be creative, so choose something that helps make your business stand out.

Follow these parameters for Facebook cover photos:

  • Displays at 820×312 pixels: anything less will be stretched. Absolute minimum size should be 400×150 pixels.
  • Ideally use an sRGB JPG file of less than 100 KB. If the image contains a logo or text, use a PNG file type.

Shared Image (Regular post)

  • Recommended size: 1200×630 pixels

Shared images are one of the most common forms of sharing on Facebook.

These will show up on your follower’s feeds: the more people who engage with it, the more people are likely to see it.

Share images that are attention-grabbing to your target audience.

Follow these parameters for shared images on Facebook:

  • Upload size of 1200×630 pixels is recommended.
  • Will appear in feed at a max width of 470 pixels and on page at a max width of 504 pixels.

Shared Link (Normally for Website Blog posts)

  • Recommended size: 1200×628 pixels

When sharing links, you have two options for adding images.

Option one gives you a small square image to the left with text on the right.

Option two gives you a larger rectangular image on top with text below.

Highlighted Image (About us – Page Picture)

  • Recommended size: 1200×717 pixels

A highlighted Facebook image stays on your personal or business page, but takes up considerably more space than a regular shared image or link.

Highlighted images are a great opportunity to share a milestone or other important information.

Follow these parameters for highlighted images on Facebook:

  • Choose a higher resolution for best quality.
  • Highlighted images will appear on your page at 843×504 pixels.

Event Images

  • Recommended size: 1920×1080 pixels

Event reminders are sent directly to users who are members of your event page.

Adding a customized image to your event page helps your event to stand out and drive attention.

Follow these parameters for Facebook event images:

  • Shows in feed at 470×174 pixels.
  • Facebook will scale this image down to minimum dimensions of 470×174 pixels.

Facebook Stories

  • Recommended size: 1080×1920 pixels

  • Recommended size: 110×110 pixels

Your Instagram profile picture is connected to all of your comments and photos on Instagram.

Be sure to use a recognizable photo that showcases what your account is about.

Follow these parameters for Instagram profile pictures:

  • 110×110 pixels: your profile photo will appear on Instagram in this size.
  • Make sure to maintain an aspect ratio of 1:1.

Thumbnail Images

  • Recommended size: 161×161 pixels

On your personal Instagram page, your content is arranged in rows of photo thumbnails that expand when clicked on and include a place for comments.

Follow these parameters for Instagram photo thumbnails:

  • 161×161 pixels: thumbnails will appear on your page in this size.
  • Photos are square: be sure to maintain an aspect ratio of 1:1.

Image Posts

  • Recommended size: 1080×1080 pixels

Images are the focal point of Instagram. With this in mind, it is highly recommended to use high resolution photos.

Follow these parameters for Instagram photos:

  • 1080×1080 pixels is recommended. Instagram scales these down to 612 x 612 pixels that will appear in your feed at 510 x 510 pixels.
  • For square or rectangle photos, maintain an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 4:5.
  • For portrait photos (4:5), recommended dimensions are 1080×1350 pixels.

Instagram Stories

  • Recommended size: 1080×1920 pixels

Instagram sees over 300 million daily users of their stories feature.

Through stories, you can reach out to both current and new customers.

Follow these parameters for Instagram stories:

  • Minimum resolution of 600×1067 pixels.
  • Aspect ratio of 9:16.
  • Maximum file size of 4 GB.

Follow these parameters for Twitter profile photos:

  • Square image.
  • Recommended size 400×400 pixels: it is displayed as 200×200 pixels.
  • Maximum file size 2 MB.

Header Image

  • Recommended size: 1500×1500 pixels

Your Twitter header photo spans the top of your Twitter profile.

It is larger than your profile photo and is likely to be the first thing that is seen by visitors to your page, so make it captivating!

  • Recommended 1500×1500 pixels.
  • Maximum 5 MB file size.
  • Accepted image types include: JPG, GIF, or PNG.

In-Stream Images

  • Recommended size: 440×220 pixels

Twitter users can attached photos to their Tweets, which will then show up in their follower’s streams (and those people’s follower’s streams if they retweet it).

To fit an image in the Twitter stream, Twitter may collapse the image into a smaller version.

Because of this, be sure to set the width of the photo to meet the minimum requirements and horizontally center your main content so that the important elements are the main focus.

Twitter Posts

  • Use a 2:1 ratio. Minimum size is 440×220 pixels.
  • Maximum to appear extended is 1024×512 pixels: this appears in-stream collapsed to 506×253 pixels on desktop.
  • Maximum file size 5 MB.

LinkedIn Images

With over 25 million profiles being viewed daily on LinkedIn, this social platform is the world’s largest professional networking site.

Personal Profile Image

  • Recommended size: 400×400 pixels

This is the main image that represents you and is important to get right.

Choose something clear that represents who you are as a potentially colleague.

Follow these parameters for LinkedIn personal profile photos:

  • Minimum 200×200 pixels, recommended 400×400 pixels and up.
  • Maximum file size 10 MB.
  • Accepted image types include: JPG, GIF, or PNG.

Personal Background Image

  • Recommended size: 1584×396 pixels

This newer feature to your LinkedIn profile adds a nice representative cap to your profile.

It can be a bit tricky to find something that fits, but take the time to find something that represents who you are.

  • Recommended 1584×396 pixels and up.
  • Maximum file size 4 MB.
  • Accepted image types include: JPG, GIF, or PNG.

Company Logo Image

  • Recommended size: 300×300 pixels

The company logo image is the larger of the two brand logo images.

This image shows up next to your brand name on the LinkedIn homepage.

It also appears in the “Companies You May Want to Follow” section, so using a high-quality photo here is important.

  • Minimum 300×300 pixels.
  • Maximum file size 4 MB.
  • Accepted image types include: JPG, GIF, or PNG.

Square Logo

  • Recommended size: 60×60 pixels

The square logo is the brand image that shows up when your company is searched for, so it is important that it is recognizable.

  • Maximum file size 2 MB.
  • Accepted image types include: JPG, GIF, or PNG.

Company Cover Image

  • Recommended size: 1536×768 pixels

The company cover image covers the entire top of the company LinkedIn page.
